“Dick Cheney” -Sung to the tune of “Joe Hill”!
Some musings…
9/13/08
I wrote and recorded this song just before the 2004 Presidential Election.
I sent it out to many radio folks, all of a progressive stripe, and sat
back expecting it to be a sensation.
Nothin. Not a peep! Nobody wanted to touch it.
I mean, they loved it down at The Pub, and I’ve been interviewed
by podcasters who stumbled across it online, but the overall indifference from
people I expected to “get it” surprised me. And so I pondered:
Was it the temerity I displayed in copping the melody from “Joe Hill”,
that beloved lefty anthem? Was it the prediction that Bush/Cheney would win
in ’04? Was it the racy vulgarism “An Old Kind of Anthem for
a New Kind of Hero!”, with which I headed the package? Hmmm…
My beliefs run counter to Dick Cheney’s at every turn, yet I feel he
sees himself, and is seen by many, as a force for decency and morality and
right. What he and his puppet and their gang have achieved in eight years
is staggering. This is not to say it’s “good”. But they’ve
been busy beavers, and have ticked down their laundry list of goals with
singular focus.
My opinion is that Cheney has been the President for those eight years, and
I’d say that if Uncle John were to win in ’08, Cheney, along
with his masters, would remain very much in the driver’s seat,
since, at this point, where there’s Rove - there’s Dick.
Enjoy!
